SPRING 2012
Wellington is a small market town in rural Somerset, England, situated near Taunton in the Taunton Deane district, close to the border of Devon and the Blackdown Hills. The town has a population of around 15,000 and is represented by 15 councillors. It is a political council with 5 Conservatives, 4 Labour and 6 Liberal Democrats.
Council meetings are conducted by the Town Mayor Councillor Vivienne Stock-Williams or, in her absence, the Deputy Mayor Councillor Gloria Copley.
The full Council Meetings are at 7pm on the 1st Monday of each month at the United Reformed Church, Fore Street. They are preceded each month on the same day by the finance committee at 5.45pm and by the Planning Meeting of the Council which starts at 6.15pm.All meetings of the council are open to the public. The public may speak and ask questions. The council also holds additional public meetings when a particular subject needs detailed discussion.

HM the Queen's Diamond Jubilee
Public meetings have been held along with enquiries into plans by local organisations to celebrate the Jubilee in June 2012. The Town Council will be drawing up a programme of these events in it's role as co-ordinator.

Wellington Town Council in partnership with Wellesley Park School, Lions, Wellington Museum and Transition Town Wellington will be holding a tree planting ceremony to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee on 26th March 2012 2pm in Hoyles Road.

The Carnival Committee’s Street Fair takes place on 3 June
The Town Council will be arranging for the town centre to be bedecked with bunting and planting commemorative oak trees at the Hoyles Road open space.
The Friends of Wellington Park will be welcoming the Taunton Concert Band to the Park for one of its series of summer concerts. The Friends will also give a Jubilee theme to its annual May Day event.
Beech Grove School will also be giving a Jubilee theme to celebrations to be carried out in May as well as giving each student a commemorative Jubilee bookmark and Court Fields School will be carrying out a Wellington Community Archive.
The local Museum Society has offered display space for any organisation that wants to mount a Jubilee themed display.
St John’s Parish Church will be providing cream teas and there is a possibility that extended bell ringing will be taking place.
Individuals and organisations have been asked to let us know of any events they are involved in or are planning so that they can be included in the schedule of events that the Town Council are drawing up and publicising.
We have subsequently been informed that local traders are hoping to arrange something at the same time as the Street Fair.
