The Council Today
The council meets at 7pm on the first Monday of each month (except bank holidys) at the Wellington United Reformed Church Hall, in Fore Street. The council is a political council. The present make-up of political parties is Conservatives 5, Labour 3 and Liberal Democrats 6, abd Independent 1. Council meetings are conducted by the Mayor of the council, or in his absence, the Deputy Mayor.
All meetings of the council are open to the public who may speak and ask questions. The council holds additional public meetings when a particular subject needs detailed discussion. The committees of the council are the Finance Committee which meets on the same evening as the main Council meetings. The other comittees of the council are Allotments, Community Safety, Emergency, Environment and Tourism, Footpaths, Staffing and Training. From time to time the council also establishes a number of working parties to address particular issues.
The town council's other functions include organising the Christmas illuminations in partnership with Taunton Deane, running allotments and play areas, improving road safety and providing better street lighting and security systems within the town. The Council also has two relocatable CCTV Cameras which are moved around the town from time to time.
Planning
Uniquely as a town council we have delegated powers, under an agreement with Taunton Deane Borough Council, to deal with some minor planning applications directly as well as giving our views on major applications.
Office hours
The town council offices are open to the public 10am to 12 noon, Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays) and at other times by appointment.
Grant Scheme For many years, the town council has actively encouraged local clubs and groups and has a policy of making grants available for a wide variety of local organisations. Grant application forms can be obtained from the council office.

Wellington Town Council Budget The Council has an annual budget for 2010-11 of £101,975.
Each year Wellington Town Council’s annual return is audited by an external auditor appointed by the Audit Commission. Any person can inspect the return. For the year ended 31st March 2010 these documents will be available at reasonable notice on application to: Greg Dyke, Town Clerk.
Staff There are currently two members of staff based in the Fore Street Offices.
Greg Dyke - Town Clerk

Greg is a proud Wellingtonian with over 40 years experience of local government. He has been employed in a variety of local government posts in Somerset, Cornwall, Surrey and at Sedgemoor District in Bridgwater.
For 25 years he has worked as Democratic Services Manager with Taunton Deane Borough Council where he managed the work of the Council’s Democratic Services Unit.
Greg, who is married with 3 grown up children, is a Life member and President of Wellington Rugby Club, a Vice President of Wellington Cricket Club, and a member of Wellington Arts Association.
He enjoys the theatre, reads, gardens and still loves 60’s music.
Julia Thorne - Assistant Town Clerk
Julia has been employed by Wellington Town Council since 2006. She was appointed to the newly created post of Assistant Town Clerk in October 2007 and helped with the changeover of clerks in 2008. Originally from Plymouth and after leaving University, Julia worked as a reporter on a number of local papers in the area.
She moved to Wellington in 2000 and is married with two sons and is also clerk to a small parish near Honiton. She also runs M2S Media, a PR company in Wellington with her husband John. Julia is a member of her son's school PTA committee and is a supporter of a number of community organisations. When she has any free time, Julia enjoys reading, writing, travelling, eating out, learning Italian, going to the cinema, and listening to pop and rock music.
