Councillor profiles

Bob Bowrah

Bob
, whose e-mail address is ebowrah@aol.com, is currently treasurer of the local Blackdown Sea Angling Club and his wife Liz is the social secretary. They have been married for 35 years, have lived in Wellington for the last 26 years and have three grown up children: Joanne is deputy head of a school in East Grinstead, West Sussex; Nick and Andy have strong sporting links with football, pool and fishing. Nick and Andy are both county level players in their sports. Bob, Nick and Andy are currently employed at Relyon Ltd in Wellington.
Since the last council elections, Bob has represented the town on the Wellington in Bloom Committee, Wellington Basins Volunteer Group, Wellington Community Centre, Rockwell Green Residents’ Association and has always supported the town council chairman of whatever political party.
He very strongly believes that if you are nominated on to a committee within the town, your commitment should be 100% at all times. Bob is on the Relyon Works Forum, is treasurer of the Blackdown Sea Angling Club based in Wellington and is also secretary of Wellington Community Centre. He supports Rockwell Green Village Hall functions and in his spare time can be found at his allotment in Rockwell Green.
Having served in HM Forces for 27 years, he retired in 1986 and has had various employments since then. He was awarded the British Empire Medal in 1980.
Bob has stated that his main concerns are increased businesses being brought into the town so that the town grows with its population. He would welcome the prospect of Taunton Market being relocated near junction 26 of the M5; the Northern Relief Road for Wellington taking more priority; more policemen on foot within the town; and a stricter regime on petty crime and vandalism.

Andrew Govier

I have lived in Wellington all my life. I attended Linden Infants, Beech Grove and Wellington Schools. On leaving school I went to work for the Ministry of Defence at the Hydrographic Office in Taunton. I then spent two years working for the MOD in Bath before moving to the Charity Commission in Taunton. I currently work full-time in the community as a councillor; non-executive director of the Taunton Deane Primary Care Trust and board member of the Avon and Somerset Probation Board.

I have been married to Jackie for 14 years and we have two children, Christina and Catherine.

I became involved in local politics because I wanted to make things better in Wellington and Rockwell Green. I have been very keen to promote the town and to get additional facilities for the town. I was particularly pleased to have been involved in the campaign to save Wellington Playing Fields from the threat of development.

I believe that the next few years are very important for the town and I would like to see it grow in sustainable way with improvements in the infrastructure keeping pace with housing. I particularly want to see facilities for sport clubs in the town improved and additional facilities provided for young people.
