Wellington Town Council has a unique, delegated planning agreement with Taunton Deane Borough Council whereby the town makes decisions on minor planning applications like the erection of extensions, garages and the change of use of property.

Around 100 applications a year are considered at a special planning meeting of the council held on the first Monday of the month at 6.15pm.

The Town is also consulted about and makes comments/recommendations to Taunton Deane Borough Council on major plans. Again, there is the opportunity for public participation at the planning meetings.
