Volunteers needed at St Margaret's Hospice

Have you ever thought about volunteering, but aren’t sure what you could offer to do? St Margaret’s Hospice is looking for people to join their existing volunteers who support patients, visitors and staff in all areas of hospice services. If you enjoy meeting people, like to make a difference for others, and want to volunteer on a regular or occasional basis, we may have just the role for you.

Minibus Drivers - Drivers are required to collect and take patients home in the St Margaret’s Hospice minibus, following their attendance at our Sunflower Centre which provides them with the opportunity to access clinical services, interact with other patients and maintain essential skills.  The minibus can be driven on a normal car driving licence and vehicle familiarisation training is provided.

Receptionist - Our reception is manned by volunteers who provide a professional service receiving and transferring calls using a modern switchboard, morning, afternoon and evenings, 7 days a week.  Receptionists take an active role in welcoming visitors and putting at ease those for whom it may be their first experience of the hospice.

Complementary Therapist - Qualified complementary therapists provide therapies such as reflexology, massage, aromatherapy, Indian head massage, Reiki and Bowen Technique to palliative care patients, and carers.

Applicants should preferably have two years' post-qualification experience or equivalent.  Be able to demonstrate relevant and up to date CPD, be a member of a registered body and have their own insurance.

Maintenance - Our maintenance volunteers are kept busy at the hospice assisting the Estates staff with tasks such as replacing light bulbs, tightening a hinge, fixing a leaky pipe or filling bird feeders or varnishing benches ensuring patients and visitors can enjoy a pleasant and relaxing environment.

Fundraising and events - If you can offer an hour or a day a year, or want to volunteer on a more regular basis, we are looking to welcome new volunteers

We host exciting events that you could lend your support to, or maybe you’d like to organise events in your local community such as a craft fair or cream tea.

We are also looking for volunteers to maintain collection tins in the community, distribute event posters and leaflets, or represent us at cheque presentations in an Ambassador role

With the help and support of volunteers and staff St Margaret’s Hospice can care for 3,800 people across Somerset, every year.

If you would like to learn more about any of these rewarding roles, please contact Sue Wilmott by calling 01823 259394 or emailing susan.wilmott@st-margarets-hospice.org.uk
