Pump Track

Wellington Town Council, in partnership with the Wellington Sports Federation and Wellington Pumptrack, Skatepark and Dirtjumps Group, is leading an exciting project to create a brand‑new pump track in the Recreation Ground — a space designed for riders of all ages and abilities to enjoy cycling, scooting, and skating in a safe, inclusive, and inspiring environment.

What is a pump track?

A pump track is a continuous circuit that is designed to be used by wheeled equipment. Bicycles are the most commonly used equipment but scooters, skateboards, roller skates, and longboards can be used. The tracks are designed so no pedalling is required once you get going, just a “pumping” motion to keep up your momentum. Pump tracks are suitable for all ages and abilities and are great assets to open spaces.

Why are we installing a pump track?

The desire for a pump track in Wellington has been expressed by a number of people and groups for many years. As Wellington Town Council took on the ownership and maintenance of open space in the town in April 2025, we now have a perfect opportunity to make these wishes a reality. There are many benefits to installing a pump track at the Recreation Ground:

  • It encourages healthy, active lifestyles for children, young people, and adults
  • It provides a free, accessible facility for families and riders of all skill levels
  • It enhances the Recreation Ground as a vibrant hub for sport and play
  • It supports Wellington’s long‑term vision for improved community wellbeing and outdoor activity

The Recreation Ground is already established as an area in the town for outdoor activity. The section of the field where the proposed track will be sited is at present underutilised and will make a great location for this track. Along with the track itself, a paved footpath is being installed to make the area easier to access. Finally, we have some other exciting projects in the Recreation Ground in progress that will elevate its facilities – make sure you follow us on social media to stay up to date!

How is this being funded?

Wellington Town Council has secured a portion of the funding needed towards the total cost of £175,000 through Section 106 funds and is actively seeking out grants to provide more towards the cost. Now we are inviting the wider community to get involved and invest in what will be a fantastic facility for the town.

We are launching a crowdfunding campaign to part‑fund the construction of the pump track, and every contribution — large or small — brings us closer to making this long‑awaited facility a reality.

Your support will:

  • Help create a high‑quality, durable track built to modern safety standards
  • Provide a new recreational asset for current and future generations
  • Strengthen community pride and investment in Wellington’s shared spaces

If you believe in giving young people more opportunities, improving local facilities, and investing in the future of our town, we invite you to contribute to the Wellington Pump Track Project. Together, we can transform the Recreation Ground into an even more dynamic and welcoming place for everyone.
