Wellington Town Council's Christmas Lights Switch On. Saturday 29th November. Wellington High Street. From 12pm. Lights on at 6pm.

Wellington Town Council are proud to present our 2025 Christmas Lights Switch On event! We are looking forward to sharing the day with you and have lots of activities, stalls, and entertainment on offer.

 

The day will begin at 12pm with entertainment all the way though until 6pm when the lights are switched on by two pupils from Wellesley Park and the Mayor of Wellington.

Entertainment

We have a great programme of entertainment available this year with 10 local acts and schools on the main stage and street performers from FUSE outdoor arts from 2pm until 6pm. Please see our main stage entertainment schedule below.

Santa's Grotto

Santa Claus is coming to town and this time he is setting up his grotto in the Kings Arms Community Hub! Santa will be meeting children throughout the afternoon, from 2pm to 3:30pm, and then from 4pm until 5:30 pm. Santa does need a short break in between to allow him to tend to his reindeer and have a mince pie. Once Santa has finished meeting children he will be joining the Mayor of Wellington on the main stage to wish us all a “Merry Christmas” before the lights are switched on at 6pm.

Santa's Grotto. The grotto will be open at the following times: 2pm to 3:30pm and 4pm to 5:30pm. I am looking forward to meeting all the good boys and girls this year! Santa Claus.
Stalls

This year we have a number of returning stallholders as well as a couple new faces joining us. Stalls will be in operation from 12pm until 6pm, please come along and see what our fantastic traders have on offer:

Competitions
Christmas Card Design Competition
Children under 12 are invited to submit a design for the Mayor of Wellington’s Christmas card!
Entries should be submitted as original copies to our reception at 30 Fore Street, drop them in during the day or pop them through the letterbox. All designs will be returned after judging.
Please ensure that the name and age of the child are written on the reverse of the drawing as well as contact details so we can get in touch if you are our lucky winner!
The deadline for entries is Wednesday 19th November, with the winning design to be unveiled at the Christmas Switch On, Saturday 29th November.
The winning design will be featured on the Mayor of Wellington’s Christmas card that is sent to dignitaries throughout Somerset. The winner will also receive a Wellington Town Council enamel pin and a dozen blank copies of the card to send to their friends and family.
We can’t wait to see this year’s designs!
The Mayor of Wellington's Christmas Card Competition. Send us your festive design for a chance to be featured on the Mayor of Wellington’s official Christmas card! Entry deadline: Wednesday 19th November. Entrants must be Wellington residents under 12 years of age, or pupils who live in neighbouring villages but attend school in the town. Shop Window Competition
Every year we host a Christmas Shop Window Competition, encouraging local businesses to pull out the stops and create a fantastic window display for the festive season,
We have hand delivered letters to businesses in the town centre to invite them to enter but other shops are welcome to enquire as well – please just drop us a line via email and we can send a letter over.
This year we even have a brand new shield to engrave competition winners for the next twelve years. Each year the shop with the winning entry is presented with the shield to display proudly on their premises for the following year. Which shop’s name will be the first on this shield?
