26 Mar WELLINGTON PARK WINS RHS PRIDE IN PARKS AWARD
On Thursday 26th March 2026 Wellington Park was awarded five out of five stars in the RHS Pride in Parks Award.
Mayor Councillor Mrs Janet Lloyd and Open Spaces Manager Darren Hill attended a South West in Bloom Spring Seminar at RHS Rosemoor where they were presented with the award.
The win follows a number of successes over the past year including retaining the Heritage Green Flag for Wellington Park, winning a Gold Award for the town at South West in Bloom, and local groups being recognised on a regional and national scale.
Judging for the RHS Pride in Parks Award took place in summer 2025 when judge Terry Porter visited the town. The Pride in Parks Award rates open spaces on their community involvement, maintenance & development, and environment. Wellington Park scored “excellent” across the board, making it one of just a few Pride in Parks winners in Somerset.
Mayor Lloyd said, “We are absolutely delighted to have won this award for our wonderful park, especially considering that the Town Council only took it on in April 2025. We have an excellent Open Spaces Team that have brought the park back up to an exceptional standard and are maintaining it fantastically.”
Darren Hill said, “The Mayor and I are very proud to have accepted this award on behalf of the Town Council and give our thanks to our brilliant Open Spaces Team for their hard work over the past year. This is the first time that Wellington Park has been awarded five stars in the Pride in Parks Award so this is a huge achievement for us.”
