We Wish You a Merry Christmas
What a day! The people of Wellington came out in force to support our Christmas Market & Lights Switch On this year. Wellington Produce Market provided a number of stalls on the day and there was entertainment aplenty from local groups and schools from 12pm. As well as great renditions of carols and classic Christmas tunes, we had the treat of seeing jugglers and fire eaters on the streets as Fuse Outdoor Arts provided some of their best talent.
Santa even came to town and set up his grotto in the Wellington Town Council gazebo. There aren’t many reindeer landing strips in the town centre so the Rotary Club of Wellington were able to give him a lift in a vintage 1935 Austin Seven.
After Christmas messages from the Church, the Town Crier, and the Mayor of Wellington the lights were switched on at 6pm by Zach and Alexis from Beech Grove Primary School – they did an excellent job!
You may have noticed that our lights are looking a little different this year. This is because we reached the end of our 3-year contract with the old lights and decided to go for a whole new look! The colour scheme was chosen by a public vote that we held last Christmas and our office elves had been working for over one year to bring these new lights into the town.
Thank you to everyone who was involved in the event and to everyone who came. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Wellington Town Council!
