28 May Closure of Station/Waterloo Road
Councillor Andrew Govier has been liaising with National Grid regarding the closure of Station/Waterloo Road.
National Grid have clarified that buses and lorries will be able o use the road throughout the works. There will be a person onsite who will escort them through, starting with the first bus of the day.
Secondly, the whole stretch of road won’t be closed for the full 40 days. The plan is to close it in two parts, Owen St to the Corams Lane junction first, allowing access to the sports centre and Springfield etc. Once this is complete, the works will move to the other side of the junction and works will take place between Corams and Seymour St, with vehicles going to the sports centre etc through the ‘side roads’. This is, of course, going to cause issues but they say that the work is essential and is part of a project to replace the metal poles that currently carry the electricity cables.
This is the first part of the project which will see more works on North Street, Brendon/Longforth Road. The company will liaise with Wellington Town Council and Somerset Council to give regular updates and details of future works.
