Darren Hill Joins Wellington Town Council

Wellington Town Council are delighted to report that Darren Hill will be joining our team as our Open Spaces Manager in April. The Town Council created the post as part of its decision to take over ownership and responsibility for the management of all the green spaces in the town from Somerset Council in 2025.  Over the coming year Darren will be responsible for ensuring the Town Council is ready to pick up these new responsibilities and will also oversee the management of the Green Corridor land and other green spaces that the Town Council is responsible for.  Darren is currently Parks and Open Spaces Technical Lead with Somerset Council having previously worked for Somerset West and Taunton and Taunton Dean District Councils in similar roles.  He started his career as an apprentice gardener with Taunton Deane working in Wellington Park.

He knows Wellington very well having been born and brought up here as well as working in the town.  Amongst many other things he has been responsible for developing management plans for Wellington Park, including delivering the improvements to the park a few years ago, and has led on the parks Green Flag application process and the town’s Britain in Bloom applications for many years.

Town Clerk Dave Farrow said ‘we are delighted that Darren will be joining us.  He brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role and we were particularly impressed with his passion for wanting the best for the town.’
