Earth Day – Our Power, Our Planet

Earth Day – Our Power, Our Planet

Earth Day is celebrated on 22nd April and this year’s theme is “Our Power, Our Planet”. This theme focuses on renewable energy with the goal of tripling global generation of clean energy by 2030.

Renewable energy comes from sources such as wind, water, and the sun. They are called “renewable” because unlike fossil fuels, they will not run out and will replenish. These sources of energy do not create greenhouse gases and so will not contribute to climate change. Earthday.org is encouraging people to explore smart energy choices for their homes and we are here to guide you in the right direction locally.

Although renewable energy is the future and is more accessible than ever, it is still costly to switch and isn’t suitable for every property. If you are unable to switch to renewable energy but would like to reduce your climate impact, there is still lots you can do in your home to make a difference to the environment and your wallet.

A big step that Wellington Town Council has taken is to make thermal imaging cameras available to our population via Wellington Library. To learn more about these cameras, how to borrow one, and for tips on making your home more energy efficient, please click here.
