Oldway Road Development Consultation

Oldway Road Development Consultation

It was standing room only at the Town Council meeting last night as around ninety members of the public attended the meeting after councillors agreed to discuss the consultation launched by Pegasus Group/Wellington LVA for a development of up to 250 houses on land south of Oldway Road as a matter of urgency.
We were asked to share the link to the consultation page – here it is: www.oldwayroadconsultation.co.uk. There is a Feedback form on the last page of the document. The deadline for feedback is the 21 March 2025.
The consultation had been announced publicly on Saturday 1 March with Wellington Town Council being formally notified of the consultation late that afternoon with a closing date for comments of the 21 March 2025. Whilst the matter wasn’t on the formal agenda for the meeting, so no decisions could be made, councillors agreed that given the short deadline, the matter should be discussed as a matter of urgency and the community given the chance to air their views. The Council used its social media pages to advise people of the meeting.
Mayor, Janet Lloyd said “When we last discussed proposals from Pegasus for this area of land in May 2023, we had around twenty people attend the meeting so the fact we had around ninety this time shows how strongly people feel about this proposal and how it is being handled. A show of hands showed that everyone present opposes the proposed development for a range of reasons including already inadequate public infrastructure and concerns about flooding. As important is the fact that the A38 has always been seen as the natural boundary for the town, and this was confirmed when Somerset West and Taunton published the Wellington place Plan in March 2023. If this proposal is agreed it will the thin end of the wedge and the end of the green space between the A38 and the M5.
We will be discussing how the Council intends to respond to the consultation at our Policy and Finance Committee on the 10 March at 6.00pm. That said given the mood of the meeting last night I have no doubt that the Town Council will be looking to work with our community and Wellington Without Parish Council, where the site is located, and its community to oppose these proposals.”
